Interview: How to become a Youtube star with Scott Herman
Scott Herman is known as a cast member of MTV The Real World Brooklyn, fitness model, and trainer to a community of 50,000 people. We chat with him about the early days, becoming a Youtube star, and a give a behind the scenes look into The Real World.

The Journey
Scott grew up as a shy kid who got bullied from time to time. Although he had brothers, sisters, and friends, he would still get picked on. Scott was a fixture in the principal’s office at his school after getting into fights.
He started spending time in the weight room at 12 years old. At first, he started with old weight set in the basement of his house. Then he got the opportunity to work at a local gym at 14.
Learning the gym business
Scott learned the fitness business by working with a local gym owner named Dave. He worked his way up through several positions; maintenance manager, trainer at 18 and assistant manager at 22.
MTV The Real World: Behind the Scenes
Scott was chosen to be part of the cast of MTV The Real World Brooklyn. Scott was paid about $500 a week. If any rules were broken your pay was deducted. At the end of the season, he got a for a check $7,000 (give or take).
Youtube Star
After the Real World, he spent 2 years in New York. While there, he met a friend at Google who told him about Youtube. Scott started doing workout videos 4-5 days a week and started gain traction.
Low Point
Scott was living off doing public appearances as a Real World star in addition to some acting and modeling. He racked up debt living in the expensive New York City.
Aha Moment
Scott bought a brand new Camaro in 2010. He was making enough money from Youtube to pay his bills. He did not have to work at the gym or do bar appearances anymore.

Scott is very interactive with his audience. He answers questions daily for a community of 50,000 people.
