Interview: How to be a Preacher with Kristina Kaiser
Kristina Kaiser is a pastor at the River South Church in Quincy, Mass. She’s also done quite a few films and has been running her own church, along with being a producer for the community center.
Below is a summary of our interview:
“The unexamined life is not worth living.”
Kristina moved around a lot. Her parents divorced twice which contributed to that. She went from Wisconsin to Indianapolis to back again. And every time she dated she thought this was the one from 13 years old onward. While Kritsina was going through such a sad point in her life, one boy was sick of listening to Kristina complain all the time, so he said “you don’t have to be sad all the time” and introduced her into his world of church. There wasn’t much church when she was growing up, yet she had been taking her sisters to church since she was 16. So, she became friends with this boy. And that boy, Dominick, became her husband. Can you believe that? She ended up getting married at 19 years old. She went to school for opera. When she got to the end of her undergrad degree, she had to find something to do. She moved to Boston, so she could go to the New England Conservatory. So they’ve been married for 6 years. Lots of sacrifices and all stress. They found a church in Cambridge called the Greater Boston vineyard. Deep down, she found opera super fun. She loved getting dressed up, and getting attention, but she felt she wouldn’t have accomplished what she wanted to. She ended up getting the job as an Administrative Assistant. In September 2010 she launched a church in Quincy, Mass., which grew to more than she hoped.
A Low Point
In high school, she had a relationship that was a little bit abusive and she didn’t have enough self-worth to say no. Thinking that if Kristina said no, someone would say she’s no fun anymore.
Out of nowhere, one day, this woman from Minnesota emailed her telling her that Kristina’s sermons, which she’s been listening to online, mean so much to her. But moments prior, Kristina had been praying for feedback whether anyone likes what she’s doing or doing any good.
Kristina’s work now
Kristina just tells people she pastors a church, which she gives two daily sermons, and runs a community center along with a few films. So she elaborates on how she had a few filmmakers to give a few perspectives. And she talks about the two films she’s currently showing.
What’s exciting Kristina now
A human trafficking 5k, which is a run or walk to end human trafficking, and build awareness. This is taking place November 1st, 2014. She’s also looking to putting an app together for people who wants to support the prevention of the human trafficking.
