“Be the change you want to see”  and that quote belongs to Ghandi.

Her Journey

After a few twists and turns, Zorina jumped quitea few continents. Although she was born in the capital of Transylvania, she moved to the capital of Romania, she had an interesting life. She walked everywhere when she was a young girl. Her grandmother used to know all about the wildflowers, and what they were used for. She thought she was going to be an artist after she studied art for 4 years. But she realized she had to be more creative and returned to her previous thought by using science to make people better. She studied physics and theoretical sciences. Went through a few interesting years so she got a few more different degrees. Got a doctorate in. She trained in Vascular biology in Harvard and eventually settled in an assistant professor position. But then she resigned from her tenured professor position and followed her long life plan to come and work for the government to see how academia works alongside medicine. She was able to help other people take their ideas to the patients. Her story has definitely led her to live 3 or 4 different lives in one.

A Low Point

When she was in the immigration line at 4am in Canada trying to see if she was allowed to stay in United States, she had no work permit and no money and no family and remembers a very special experience.

Aha Moment

Even though she didn’t know a soul though, she noticed a man went and brought her back a cup of coffee with no questions, nothing to say, he didn’t try to connect with her. Somehow, he must have noticed how scared, how cold and how lost she was. And when she talks about it, she gets goosebumps because it gives her hope there are a lot of nice people.

Zorina’s work now

Right now, she is a health science administrator. Her professional motto is to “make science happen for people through people.” Zorina is making biomedical science become reality. As a health administrator, she’s in charge of a group of people with funds for research in Vascular medicine and hypertension, figuring out how blood vessels work, testing treatments, and delivering care to patients.

What’s exciting Zorina now

One project she’s excited about is one she’s been involved in from the beginning and that’s being able to turn the researchers’ ideas into actual medical interventions, including vascular interventions.

Helpful Habit:

Rowing very early and exercising outside and being in nature.

Helpful Person:

She could recognize the guy who gave her a cup of coffee. But a very important person who shaped who she was is her father. He expected her to be excellent and to do her very best, while also being there for her. She also recognized her mother, because people recognized her mother, whose name was Zorina, as a very elegant woman.

Internet Resource:

Google, and Wikipedia as well as the National Institutes of Health website.

What’s Your Purpose:

Having asked herself that frequently, she knows that she is here to help people through biomedical science and to be her very best.
